🌸 Cassie's Project:  Floral Kitchen Curtain

Originals

Cassie was inspired by two darling Kimberbell projects: Butterfly Meadows and Willa's Wildflowers from our Blossoms & Butterflies collection. Let's look at the originals!

#1: Applique of the Month: Butterfly Meadows

Our April Applique of the Month design is blooming with blossoms and lovely leaves. Add a whimsical butterfly for sweet spring decor!

Learn more about Applique of the Month HERE. I personally loved stitching out this table runner. (To join me on that journey, click HERE!)

#2: Blossoms & Butterflies: Willa's Wildflowers

This design is part of Kimberbell's Blossoms & Butterflies collection that came out a few years ago. (It's now a digital download HERE!) Isn't it beautiful?

Reimagined

Now, Cassie decided to take these two designs and make a lovely kitchen curtain, shown below. (Don't these two designs look perfect together on the linen fabric?)

To see Cassie describe her project, click HERE and go to the 4:14 mark!

Materials Needed

  • Linen Fabric (In the height & width for the window)
  • Sticky-Back Wash-Away Stabilizer HERE
  • Butterfly Meadows Applique of the Month design HERE
  • Centering Crosshairs file (included in Butterfly Meadows files)
  • Blossoms & Butterflies digital download HERE

Cassie's Pro Tips

  1. Measure Window: Cassie's window is 40" wide and she wanted her panel to be about 32" tall.
  2. Cut Fabric Panels: Curtains should be 1.5 to 2 times the size of the window you’re covering. Cassie cut two panels measuring 40" tall (to accommodate flange and rod pocket) and 38" wide (figuring she'd lose some width with seams).
  3. Sew Hems: Prior to adding the embroidered designs, Cassie sewed hems around all four sides of her panels.
  4. Stitch Centering Crosshairs: Stitch this right onto Sticky-Back Wash-Away.
  5. Stitch the Design: Cassie added the 8x12 Butterfly Meadows design to the center of each panel.
  6. Use Basting Stitch: Instead of skipping the basting stitch, Cassie used it as a guide for lining up Willa’s Wildflowers on either side of the flowers.
  7. Clean Loose Ends: After stitching out Willa’s Wildflowers, Cassie cleaned up jump stitches and loose stitches, then removed the basting stitch.
  8. Rinse Wash-Away: Spray the Sticky-Back Wash-Away with water and hang dry to prevent the linen from shrinking. Steam to remove wrinkles.
  9. Create Flange & Pocket: Cassie folded the top 6" at the top backwards, making a 4" flange and a 2" pocket for the curtain rod to sit. She then pressed the flange.
  10. Hang and Enjoy! This curtain coordinates very well with Cassie's projects from the Cottage Garden Bella Box!

🍓Kim's Project: Strawberry-Lemonade Tablescape

Original

Kim was inspired by several Kimberbell projects, starting with the "berry" cute Fruit 11 background quilting design. Let's take a look.

#1: Fruit 11 Background Quilting Design

This large-scale Fruit 11 design can be used with Clear Blue Tiles (Learn more HERE!) OR with the Block-by-Block quilting method. (I just love these large berries and leaves!)

#2: Easy Applique, Fruit Applique 1

Easy Appliques are so much fun. They're inexpensive, take hardly any time to stitch out, and are absolutely darling! Kim loved this Fruit Applique 1 design for her project.

#3: Blossom Applique 1

Now, every strawberry needs a strawberry blossom, right?! This Blossom Applique 1 design is just the right contrast with the berry above.

#4: Sweet Surprise Gift Pockets

But we're not finished yet. Kim also wanted to use Kimberbell's Sweet Surprise Gift Pockets, especially the You're the Berry Best and Snailed It designs.

#5: Sippin' on Sunshine Quilt

Kim also noticed that the Sippin' on Sunshine quilt includes both lemon AND strawberry designs. Here's the original. Can you spot the fruit? (There's so much creativity you can get from one project!)

Reimagined

Kim took all of the designs shown above and created a table runner, utensil holders, and beautiful baskets for a sweet Strawberry-Lemonade Tablescape! 😍
